About the treatment of
Brain diseases
Brain diseases and CyberKnife
The treatment of brain tumors, brain metastases, choroidal melanomas, acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, angiomas (arteriovenous malformations) and trigeminal neuralgia with CyberKnife® technology at the CyberKnife® Center Soest has made great progress in recent years. This innovative treatment method allows doctors to apply precise and targeted radiation therapy to these specific areas in the brain. On this page we will take a closer look at the applications of CyberKnife® technology in the treatment of these different brain disorders.

• Trigeminal neuralgia
Brain tumors and brain metastases
Brain tumors are abnormally growing cells in the brain that can be benign or malignant. Accurate and precise radiation therapy is critical to the treatment of brain tumors. The CyberKnife® system uses state-of-the-art imaging technologies such as CT and MRI scans to obtain a detailed picture of the tumor. Doctors can use these images to locate the tumor precisely and adjust the radiotherapy accordingly. The CyberKnife® system then uses a high-precision robotic arm that focuses intense radiation onto the tumor while sparing surrounding healthy tissues.
Brain metastases are tumors that have spread to the brain from other types of cancer in the body. Treatment of brain metastases requires targeted radiation therapy to destroy the tumor cells while sparing healthy tissue. The CyberKnife® system offers the possibility of targeting radiation therapy precisely to the brain metastases. By using real-time imaging during treatment, the CyberKnife® system can correct for patient movement to ensure maximum accuracy.
Choroidal melanoma and acoustic neuroma
Choroidal melanomas are rare but potentially dangerous tumors that can develop in the choroid of the eye. Treatment of uveal melanoma requires precise radiation therapy to destroy the tumor and spare the surrounding healthy tissue. The CyberKnife® system allows physicians to precisely tailor radiation therapy to the tumor without having to perform invasive surgical procedures. This is especially important if the tumor is close to sensitive structures like the optic nerve.
Acoustic neuromas are benign tumors that affect the auditory nerve in the inner ear. Treating acoustic neuromas requires precise radiation therapy to shrink or control the tumor while preserving the auditory nerve and other surrounding structures. The CyberKnife® system offers a gentle and effective option for treating acoustic neuromas. By precisely targeting the radiation therapy, doctors can target the tumor while protecting the surrounding healthy tissue.
Meningiomas and angiomas
Meningiomas are tumors that arise from the lining of the brain or spinal cord. Treatment of meningiomas requires precise radiation therapy to destroy the tumor while sparing healthy tissue. The CyberKnife® system offers a non-invasive option for treating meningioma. By combining state-of-the-art imaging and precise radiation therapy, doctors can precisely localize the tumor and provide a tailored treatment.
Angiomas (arteriovenous malformations) are abnormal vasculature in the brain that can cause severe bleeding or neurological problems. Treatment of angiomas requires precise and targeted radiation therapy to destroy the abnormal blood vessels and spare the surrounding healthy tissue. The CyberKnife® System offers a non-invasive option for treating angiomas. The CyberKnife® system’s high-precision radiation therapy can be targeted to the abnormal blood vessels to ensure effective treatment.

Treatment of trigeminal neuralgia
Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition in which the trigeminal nerve causes severe pain in the face. Treating trigeminal neuralgia requires precise radiation therapy to calm the affected nerve and reduce pain. The CyberKnife® system offers a gentle and non-invasive option for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. By precisely targeting radiation therapy, the trigeminal nerve can be targeted to reduce pain and improve the patient’s quality of life.
Experiences of our patients
The conclusion
Overall, the CyberKnife® technology enables highly precise and targeted radiation therapy for brain tumors, brain metastases, choroidal melanomas, acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, angiomas and trigeminal neuralgia. The non-invasive nature of this treatment method minimizes the risk of complications and offers patients a gentle alternative to traditional surgery. As CyberKnife® technology continues to evolve, physicians are able to offer increasingly precise and tailored treatments to further improve outcomes for patients with brain diseases.
